We’re looking for a fantastic candidate to take on the role as Head of Tax within our Corporate Finance team and take ownership of the Group’s tax strategy, ensuring strong governance across the organisation. In this role, they will oversee all D&G Group tax matters, including both direct and indirect taxes.

Please note that the D&G Group is currently subject to a binding offer for acquisition by the US‑based Asurion LLC, and the successful candidate will play a key role in tax integration activities.

Key Responsibilities:

UK and EU tax compliance and planning 

  • Oversee the preparation, review and delivery to HMRC of  

  • all UK corporate tax compliance (outsourced to an  

  • external firm).  

  • Estimate and manage UK corporation tax quarterly  

  • instalment payments.  

  • Manage the calculation and estimation of the UK  

  • corporate interest restriction.  

  • Manage the delivery and optimisation of claims for UK  

  • capital allowances. 

  • Oversee the delivery by the UK finance team of UK VAT  

  • and IPT returns and compliance requirements. 

  • Manage and minimise irrecoverable VAT, including  

  • maintaining the UK partial exemption special method. 

  • Identify, manage and deliver tax optimisation initiatives,  

  • with due regard to the Group’s low risk appetite.  

  • Support, advise on and review the UK PSA arrangements,  

  • and more generally provide guidance and expertise on  

  • employment tax matters, working with internal teams  

  • (Reward and Payroll) to ensure accurate and compliant  

  • reporting.  

  • Manage transfer pricing arrangements within the Group. 

  • Manage European tax compliance processes under  

  • outsourcing arrangements, in conjunction with the  

  • European finance team.  

  • Manage withholding tax obligations, including with  

  • regard to the Group’s debt.  

Forecasting and financial reporting 

  • Manage direct tax aspects of the Group’s budget and  

  • forecasting process with a focus on ensuring the accuracy  

  • of forecast cash tax paid.  

  • Manage tax reporting requirements, including calculation  

  • of current and deferred taxes for the Group and liaise 

  • with Group Reporting and external auditors to deliver  

  • audited numbers.  

  • Manage Pillar II and associated country-by-country  

  • reporting compliance obligations. 

Stakeholders

  • Manage the Group’s relationship with HMRC across all taxes, including co-ordinating SAO compliance.  

  • Support the corporate finance and legal teams on maintenance of the Group structure, including corporate  simplification, inter-company balances and distributions. 

  • Generally, act as the principal in-house source of tax  expertise and advice, including working with the commercial teams on tax aspects of partner and other contracts. 

  • Support the US finance team on tax aspects of the Group’s growth in the US. 

Others

  • Manage and reduce tax risk for the D&G Group, including first-line responsibility for maintaining tax controls.  

  • Support on the integration of D&G into the Asurion group, following completion of the planned acquisition.  

  • Manage the use of external tax advisors and associated expense. 

  • Assist with ad hoc finance projects. 

Skills and experience required:

  • As the tax subject matter expert, a high degree of expertise will be needed in direct and indirect tax matters, together with a willingness to learn and develop in areas of tax that are relevant to D&G, such as employment tax.  

  • Experienced senior tax professional, with the ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels of the business including senior stakeholders, external advisors etc. 

  • The role-holder will regularly work with professional advisors to manage tax deliverables, reduce risk and take advice on complex matters, and will, therefore, need experience in dealing with advisors and auditors.  

  • Confident, with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment 

  • Able to think creatively, be a self-starter who is able to work independently with minimal supervision, and to have a keen awareness of risk management.  

  • Clear written and oral communication skills, including simplifying complex subjects for non-experts and a variety of senior and other stakeholders. 

  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail, good judgment showing logical decision making 

  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines 

  • Experience of establishing and maintaining a robust and effective control environment with appropriate documentation 

  • Qualified accountant with tax experience or qualified tax advisor (ACA or CTA preferred) 

  • Business and commercial awareness 

  • Systems: good level of IT skills, including MS office.

  • Experience of Workday preferred but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Audit Management & Planning

  • Support the Senior IT Audit Manager in developing the annual internal audit plan and regular assessment of the risks within the technology function.

Audit Delivery:

  • Perform and deliver end to end audits timely and in line with the internal processes and quality expectations.

  • Draft high-quality, detailed, relevant and accurate audit work papers.

  • Draft high-quality audit issues and recommendations. that are relevant, commercial and sound and align with the company’s strategy.

  • Effectively uses technology (i.e. audit and other D&G standard tools) in the conduct of IA activities and engagements.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong, professional working relationships with business stakeholders and track outstanding management actions to timely resolution.

Team collaboration:

  • Proactively assists the Internal Audit team information gathering, risk assessment and tailoring of audit programmes.

  • Proactively interact across the Internal Audit team, promote continuous improvement in audit practices and encourage collaboration with Risk and Compliance to embed a robust risk management culture.

Key skills:

  • Deep understanding and experience with UK regulations – PRA and FCA

  • Understanding of EU relations including BaFin (German regulator) and a working knowledge of DORA.

  • Understanding of the US market and practices.

  • Experience of executing IT audits within an internal audit function in financial services or insurance

  • Strong written and spoken English.

  • Professional qualification relevant to role e.g.: CISA, CISM, CISSP.

  • Experience assessing IT general controls, application controls, cybersecurity, cloud security (Azure/AWS), firewalls, network security, SDLC, database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server), operating systems (windows/AS400), Microsoft exchange and new technologies such as AI.

  • Ability to challenge suitability and application of existing IT controls.

  • Ability to assess the adequacy of internal controls by considering business and technology risks in an integrated manner.

  • Prior experience in executing project and programme reviews.

  • High attention to detail skills to identify and evaluate potential risks to the organisation.

  • The ability to clearly communication to senior IT stakeholders both verbally and written.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver risk‑based internal audits across D&G, focusing on risk management and compliance

  • Plan, lead and conduct high‑quality audit fieldwork, including walkthroughs, control design assessments, testing, and documentation, in line with D&G’s Internal Audit methodology.

  • Produce clear, evidence‑based audit findings and recommendations that enhance customer outcomes, strengthen governance, improve the risk, and control environment.

  • Present audit results to senior management, ensuring insights are understood and actions are prioritised in line with business risk and regulatory expectations.

  • Monitor and validate the embedding of management actions, confirming sustainability of remediation and improvement in control effectiveness.

  • Analyse D&G’s operational and customer‑facing processes to identify root causes and opportunities for efficiency, accuracy, and improved service delivery.

  • Support the development and use of data analytics to improve risk assessment, audit coverage and insights.

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across D&G to understand business changes and emerging risks.

  • Collaborate with D&G’s three lines of defence to ensure consistent understanding of risks, monitoring activity and regulatory expectations.

  • Support the Internal Audit team in improving tools, templates and methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Ensure all audit work complies with the IIA International Standards, the CIIA Code of Practice, and D&G’s Internal Audit policies and procedures.

  • Travel to other D&G offices or operational sites when required to complete audit engagements.

Skills and experience required:

  • Knowledge of either UK or EU financial service regulatory environments and be fluent in English language, if based in the EU.

  • ACCA, CIA, ACA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Internal Audit experience in financial services with a good understanding of audit processes, ideally within the insurance industry with strong regulatory experience (e.g. BaFin, IVASS, DORA, PRA, FCA) desirable but not essential

  • Strong strategic awareness and the ability to think critically and analytically

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and team skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff across the Group, mindful of cultural differences.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess processes and recommend risk‑mitigating improvements.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently, escalate issues appropriately, and collaborate across functions.

  • Strong time and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
