600 Volunteer and Raise 19k

Comic Relief 3

On Friday 24 March over 120 colleagues from Nottingham, Bedworth and Brighton donated their time to take donation calls from the public for Comic Relief.

The Nottingham call centre was selected as one of 11 call centres across the country taking part in this bi-annual event – which raised more than £71 million on the night.

Kirsty Peasley, Domestic & General head of communications and volunteer, said: “We had an absolutely fantastic night and I am so humbled by the number of people wanting to get involved. All of our volunteers, which included a mix of employees, friends, family and other businesses, did such an amazing job and we took over £22,000 in donations on the night. We hope to take part in future call taking for Comic Relief, it has been brilliant.” The highest single donation was an amazing £750.

Volunteers were joined by players from Nottingham Rugby Club and Marcellus Baz , who founded Switch Up in St Ann’s and was the winner of the BBC’s Sports Personality 2016, Unsung Hero Award. Marcellus tried out some sparring with some of our volunteers. Marcellus said: “This is such a fantastic cause, it is great to see the energy at Domestic & General and so many people volunteering their time. I have really enjoyed it and seeing all the call taking in action is fantastic.”

Our very own Martin Beal from Sky kept volunteers energised throughout the five-hour shift. The BBC’s East Midlands today also paid a visit and broadcast live from the call taking floor.

Earlier in the day, General Manager Lorraine O’Neil and Contact Centre Manager, Multi-Reg’s Eddie Garofalo went to BBC Radio Nottingham for a live radio interview about all the activities planned, and Domestic & General’s own social media channels were flooded with likes and shares. Our biggest post of the night was our Facebook Live which had a reach of over 7,000 people. It was shared 35 times and had 2,900 views and the total reach for our social media is 19,000 and counting, which is awesome.
