Nottingham Raises Thousands For Charity
Generous employees at our Nottingham office have donated their time, clothing, toiletries, washing machines and more over the course of this year while also raising an impressive £6,800 for their chosen charity.
Nottingham employees voted for the homeless charity, The Friary, as its local chosen charity for 2015. Based in West Bridgford, The Friary was set up more than two decades ago to help the homeless, boost employment skills and provide companionship. In that time, it has helped hundreds of vulnerable people – supporting them to get back into work and turn their lives around.
Craig White, UK customer service director at Domestic & General, said: “This is a huge achievement and we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our staff and those who gave generously to help us raise this sum.
“Each day we are there for our customers when they need us most to take the worry out of breakdowns, and this year we have also been putting our all into helping our chosen local charity. The Friary does some great work in helping vulnerable people in all aspects of life whether that is to have a roof over their head or help them get back into work.
“The partnership is a cause close to our hearts with the charity doing some great work across Nottinghamshire. We are delighted to have raised support for The Friary through donating time, batches of water, clothes or funds to help it continue the excellent work that it does.”
Volunteers from our Nottingham office have donated countless hours helping The Friary to deliver a number of services. Employees worked in its coffee bar in direct service to the homeless and sometimes rough-sleepers of Nottingham’s community, served in charity’s IT suite helping vulnerable people create CVs, carry out job searches and make job applications, and gave a helping hand to receive, unpack, sort and re-stack boxes of donated items.
Helen Jones, marketing and communications officer for The Friary, said: “The Friary is grateful to Domestic & General for allowing their staff time out of their busy schedules to come along and help.
“Staffing is an expensive resource and we couldn’t manage without these willing and generous volunteers. They bring along life experience and work skills that we couldn’t afford to pay for. Time given and every kind word spoken will help boost the self-esteem and skills of the people we are here to help. This is a prime example of people in community working locally to end homelessness.”
